Ten years ago…I released Containment Zone.

Ten years ago I wrote a book. That book: Containment Zone. And I’ve shamelessly peddled this beast to anyone for all it was worth. I also haven’t written anything since.

Or rather, I haven’t put out anything else for anyone to read.

I have half a dozen finished and nearly finished novels/short stories/writing projects. But none that will be seen by readers eyes any time soon. Anyone else work on projects for ten years and just let them fizzle out? Comment below.

Writing update: 10/14/23

My new novel Blinkers Core is nearing completion. 53,000 words at the moment and will end up somewhere around 60,000 words. It may never see the light of day.

I already have a pretty good idea as to the revisions I’m going to make. Often times, the first draft is really a vomit the story out onto the page kind of thing. And by the end, I have a clearer picture of what kind of story it actually is.

Meanwhile, Containment Zone is still up on Amazon!

Writing book of the day: Wonderbook — Jeff Vandermeer

Wonderbook —Jeff Vandermeer

This book is a behemoth! It’s full of wonderful tidbits that I found almost overwhelming at first. A book to stay on your shelf for moments you feel least inspired. Fun fact: found this guy while rummaging around Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon.

List your favorite writing book in the comments.

Writing Update: 10/3/2022

Amazon: 20 Reviews 4.3/5 Stars

Goodreads: 27 Ratings 3.81/5 Stars

I wrote Containment Zone almost ten years ago. I’ve been trying to write a new novel ever since. Time has been my biggest hiccup. I simply don’t have enough of it. I’ll get tens of thousands of words into something and then…kaput! Life happens and pulls my attention away and I’m unable to finish.

I never made any money of Containment Zone. Forty bucks here…a few dollars there. And while I always got a little thrill out of selling a copy, I was equally, if not more thrilled, to get a review and hear what people had to say about it. I made it a point to not tell friends and family about it. Because I didn’t want people I knew blowing smoke up my skirt. Instead I wanted to hear from people I didn’t know that it was a good read. Felt more authentic that way.

I try and write more these days. I’m lucky now if I have twenty minutes to chip away at my newest project, Blinkers Core, but have no idea whether it will ever see the light of day. I’m over 50,000 words into it. It’s my hope that if I post more on here, I’ll hold myself more accountable to it.

But until then, check out my novel Containment Zone. I can say now, that after ten years, and after the number of positive reviews its gotten, it’s a decent novel. One I hope more people can stumble upon and enjoy. And if you do happen to stumble upon it, and if you do happen to read it and enjoy it, then I encourage you to leave a review. I love hearing what people have to say about it.

Containment Zone Available on Amazon!

October 12th, 2021.

That was the day Death ceased her collection of souls.

Instead of claiming people on the day of their death, Death has doomed human beings to remain trapped inside their decaying bodies until a sliver of the brain dubbed the “soul region” rots away. The government’s only solution is to set up Containment Zones in each state to handle the burgeoning undead demographic. However, what were intended to be peaceful, country club settings for the deceased quickly fill above and beyond capacity, to the point that each Containment Zone more closely resembles a third world slum, slums filled with our dead and decaying loved ones…

Parker Wallace May wasn’t ready to die, but when one inhales too much smoke from a house fire, that’s exactly what tends to happen. He never imagined ending up in a Containment Zone at his age, and definitely never imagined his living wife would abandon him and never return his calls. But when Parker receives news from the outside that his wife is getting remarried, Parker sets out to do the one thing no one has ever done before…break out of the Containment Zone…

To do this, Parker goes to work for a ruthless undead mobster smuggling in and selling an illegal drug called Phanex that reacts with the soul region of the dead’s brain, giving them a taste of the life they once had but exacerbating their decay with each use…

Can Parker escape the Containment Zone and get back to his wife? Or will Parker succumb to the alluring qualities of Phanex, planting the seeds of his own demise in the process…
